Sunshine!

The sun has been warm and wonderful over the last week or so. Ian and I decided to take a walk this afternoon. We hadn't gone far when we found something random on the sidewalk.

I called this....
a transistor.

Then Ian called this....
fat.

I'm pretty sure both of us were wrong.

Apparently this....
is a transistor.

And of course, its not fat. Although, some days, I do feel fat, haha.

April in the Brick House has been beautiful month (except the random snow and rain)- and full of visitors! I really like when people stay in our spare room- it makes me feel all grown up! ...Although, I have to admit, I felt like a lame host most of the time, but I have a few years to brush up on those skills. I'm not too worried.

Winter semester was sucessful, and Ian has already started Spring classes. He'll be busy, but its good for him :) I'm starting to get used to the feelings of fatigue and ravishing, unquenchable hunger, but at least I've grown out of my afternoon naps. Vashti bird, our little parakeet, is growing her wings back nicely, and can now control her descent....that is not to say she has learned to land without smacking into her cage, or anything else in her way. Unfortunately, that one might take some time. At least she will come out of her cage on her own now. Thats fun.

Sorry for the lack of update- I've had lots of ideas, but none of them ever came to fruition. Having the idea, and writing the blog, are two completely different things. Gladly, the transistor was just what I needed :)

Rex Lee Run

This morning, Ian woke me up at 8:30 in the stupid morning to go cheer on his coworkers who ran in the Rex Lee Run (cancer research!). I didn't mind the whole cheering on thing, it was the fact that I had to get up early on a Saturday! Anywho, it was freezing, we rode our bikes, and I didn't have gloves :( Ian let me use his though, so then it was better :) We rode up up up up the big hill, met up with a coworker who wasn't running (officially), and eventually had hundreds of people headed in our direction. Unfortunately, we couldn't see any faces that we knew.

So we headed to the other side of campus. Ian and I on our bikes, Jake on foot. He ran. haha. We reached the other side just in time to see a couple familiar faces! After a brief "wooohooo!" we headed to the finish line. Upon arriving, we saw another of his coworkers and congratulated him. It was lots of fun, great energy, and I even scored a tasty banana from one of Ian's old mission buddies.

And although I didn't RUN a 5K today, I did manage to RIDE 5 miles. Hoorah for my periwinkle raleigh! (thats what I call my bike, cause its periwinkle. I don't care what you say Ian, its periwinkle!)

Failure!

Utah is officially on my list of EX-friends. One minute I was having a picnic, enjoying the sunny, slightly breezy day....and then it snowed again! Bah! I can't believe Utah would flip flop on me like this- I thought we were friends!

Spring!! BEAUTIFUL spring!!!!

Oh I LOVE spring!! And it has finally (hopefully, permanently) come to Utah!! The sun was so beautiful today that Ian and I decided that it was time to once again have our "weekly picnics." We almost missed the sun because of Ian's late class, but luckily we got to enjoy the last few rays. There is a park just down from our little brick house that is our official picnic park- we also like to play disc golf there on the weekends. It was a great adventure!

Anywho, so today, the picnic was great, but I felt kinda like I was watching a movie!! As we pulled in to the parking lot, we noticed a comcast truck on the other side. On the side of the truck that is hidden from the main view of the park, we saw a blonde cuddling and playing kissy face with the cable guy!! They were there when we got there, and after we finished our meal, we played with the aerobie for a while....and the couple was still there!!

It felt like a movie scene where the lady of the house had called the cable company when her cable wasn't working right, and she fell for the cable guy. But it was a forbidden romance (or an affair) so they couldn't just have a normal relationship, so they had to settle for the occasional meetings in the park. The whole thing was just funny. I probably wouldn't have written about it on the blog, but as we were about to leave, the cable guy drove off, and the blonde he was with.....she hopped into a lexus and started smoking a cigarette!!! I don't know a single cable guy that drives a lexus!! So there you go, Utah is just as scandalous as New York City!!!

The cut of the year!

As per Mom's request, here is a close up of my hair cut. It was definitely a drastic cut! I plan on letting it grow to a little past my shoulders, but I'm having fun with short hair. And just so I don't feel so narcissistic, here is one of Ian and I before we leave on our date tonight.

Playtime!!!

Lately things have been slow in the life of a Massage Therapist. People just don't have the money to spend on massage maintenance. So, with the encouragement of Ian and my amazing Christmas present from his mother, I spent my down time doing something quite exciting....

I made a skirt!!!

I picked the fabric and the pattern just after Christmas, but I've been hesitating. So Ian said, "You have nothing else to do- make something on your sewing machine!! So after washing the fabric, I cut out the pattern, I pinned it to the fabric, I cut the fabric, (probably the most nerve wracking part- because if you mess that up, you've got no choice but to buy more fabric!) and then I sat down to sew it all together. I even put in the invisible zipper all by myself!!! So now I have my first creation. I have patterns for more, so I can't wait to make them!!! I'm so grateful for my toy!! Life is boring without a sewing machine! Hoorah for sewing!!

Oh, and PS- if I forgot to mention I got a hair cut, sorry! :)

Happy New Year!!!!

No, I'm not 26 days behind!!! Today marks the first day of the Chinese New Year!! So in order to celebrate the year of the ox, I made egg rolls for the OX that I married!! (no joke, he was born in the year of the ox, so he's really an ox. haha Then again, I'm a rat...)

I have honestly never made egg rolls before- I made lumpia with a philipino family before, but today I basically had no clue what I was doing (except for maybe the wrapping.) It was pretty fun! I found an amazing recipe online, and after a quick stop at Macey's, I had everything I needed. I browned the meat- seasoning it well. Then I sautéed the cabbage, and finally I folded the mixture into an egg roll "envelope" and deep fried it! Perhaps it wasn't the healthiest meal, but it sure was yummy!! I really LOVED the recipe I found on allrecipe.com. It was delicious!

Happy Chinese New Year!
